At last night’s Board Game Social, held on what I once heard on a radio quiz is the unluckiest day of the year (although I can now find no verification of that “fact” anywhere!), we were lucky enough to be blessed by the presence of a large and lovely and lively bunch of players willing to take their chances and pit their wits at a wide variety of tabletop titles.
The throng of enthusiastic gamers included three familiar faces who were joining us for the first time in a while – great to see you again Gandhi, Matt and Ruban – and three brand-new faces joining us for the first time ever – a huge LeadBelt Games Arena WELCOME to Natasha, Becca and Andy – we look forward to seeing you all at many more sessions in 2024!
Last night it was quite noticeable that fewer snacks than usual were being consumed at the tables, no doubt an effect of Christmas overindulgence! But over hearty conversations of what we all did and got for Christmas, there was much enjoyment and laughter in plays of….
- GREEN TEAM WINS
- PHANTOM INK
- POETRY FOR NEANDERTHALS
- FOREST SHUFFLE
- THE TAVERNS OF TIEFENTHAL
- FORBIDDEN ISLAND
- SEA SALT & PAPER
- AZUL
- ABYSS
- FUGITIVE
- POINT CITY
- ZILLIONAIRES ON MARS
- SO CLOVER
- LETTER JAM
Always the most amusing and enjoyable thing for me to observe is the after-play dissection that invariably takes place following a co-op or team game! It’s almost a game in itself, and despite plenty of the discussion being about whose clues were ridiculous or which moves were ill-advised, it always delivers humour and brings everyone closer together, promising better understanding and team-ups in future (at least until the next time the wheels fall off). It’s a joy to behold!
To get in on the fun, come and join this lovely bunch at the Board Game Social, every week on Thursday from 5pm and Sunday from 12 noon. The next one is New Year’s Eve and we’ll be starting earlier – join us from 11am for some end-of-year drinks and games!
Cheers!
